| Fire erupts after onion ring snack: Madison |
|
A fire sparked by a couple's early morning snack damaged a Boone County home Sunday, said James Lambert, chief of the Madison Fire Department.
A man and a woman were cooking onion rings on a stove about 3:30 a.m. at 70 Cedar Lane in Madison when a grease fire stared, igniting the kitchen cabinets, Lambert said. The fire spread through the kitchen, to a small room near the kitchen and then onto the roof and attic space. The rest of the home had water and smoke damage, he said. The man and the woman got out of the house, along with an 8-year-old girl. The blaze woke up a neighbor, who called 911, he said. The man and the woman may have called as well, he said. Madison and Danville volunteer firefighters responded. No one was hurt in the blaze and the fire did not appear to be suspicious, Lambert said. This is the second early morning fire in Madison in the past week. Last Friday, a fire destroyed an automotive garage near Bob and B's Bar at 375 Madison Avenue. The blaze occurred about 3:30 a.m. Firefighters were stalled because of a frozen fire hydrant. No one was in the garage when the fire started, but three vehicles were destroyed. The state Fire Marshal's office was contacted, but Lambert said the Jan. 4 fire also did not appear to be arson. The two fires do not appear to be related, he said. This incident occured in Boone County. |
