3 students killed in bus collision:   Barboursville
Two brothers and another student heading to high school were killed Tuesday when their compact car collided with a school bus. Several of the students on the bus received minor injuries but none were hospitalized.

State Police identified the victims as brothers David Allen Adkins, 18; Christopher Shawn Adkins, 16; and Robert Sinclair, 17, all of Barboursville and all Cabell Midland High students.

David Adkins was driving the car, which he apparently lost control of, said Trooper R.S. Charlton. The vehicle crossed the center line, slid around and its passenger side hit the front of the bus, Charlton said.

There were about 40 students on the bus. They and the bus driver were checked by paramedics before another bus took the students to their respective schools, Cabell Midland and Barboursville Middle School, said Cabell County schools spokesman Jedd Flowers.

At least 10 counselors were brought to the Ona high school Tuesday for grief counseling and Flowers said any student who needed to go home would be allowed to do so with parental permission.

All Cabell Midland after-school activities were canceled Tuesday.

“We are all just deeply saddened by this horrible accident and we just cannot believe what a horrible loss this is to our students and staff,” said Flowers. “Everyone here is very sorrowful today and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these students.”

This incident occured in Cabell County.
