4 departments battle house fire:   Pinch
No one was injured when a house burned at 338 Brynwood Drive in the Knollwood area just north of Charleston Tuesday afternoon, said Lt. Donald Milgram of the Pinch Volunteer Fire Department.

Dispatchers received a call at 4:05 p.m. that the house of Robert L. Cross was on fire. Milgram said he left his house on nearby Dutch Road as soon as he got the call, but the house’s roof was already burning when he arrived.

Firefighters from the Pinch, Malden, Frame and Charleston departments controlled the fire and kept it from spreading to nearby houses in the wooded neighborhood, and by 5:30 p.m. only a few hot spots remained.

The cause of the fire was not known Tuesday night. It appeared to have started upstairs, Milgram said.

This incident occured in Kanawha County.

Early morning fire engulfs, destroys home:   Alderson
A single-family home in Alderson was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

The Alderson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 1:42 a.m. call at 104 Webster St. and was assisted on the scene by the Federal Fire Department of Alderson and Tri-County VFD.

The structure was fully engulfed in flames when the firefighters arrived, said Alderson VFD fire chief H.R. McVey.

Firefighters were able to suppress the fire quickly, but the house and its contents were a total loss, McVey said.

The origin of the fire is unknown, McVey said, but foul play is not suspected.

The family, including several children, escaped the structure unharmed.

Firefighters were on the scene for nearly four hours Tuesday morning. The wind and cold weather complicated efforts to fight the fire, said McVey.

This incident occured in Greenbrier County.
